Wednesday 4th March
There’s no better way to experience the West Country than on foot. From gentle riverside strolls to panoramic hilltop hikes, the countryside surrounding our pubs offers some fabulous walks.

Cranborne Chase: Big Skies & Ancient Landscapes

Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Cranborne Chase offers sweeping chalk downland, quiet woodlands and abundant wildlife.

Perfect for longer rambles followed by a well-earned pint back at the pub.

A route we love: Fonthill Lake Circular (https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/trail/england/dorset/fonthill-bishop-circular)

The Mendip Hills: Classic Somerset Views

Mendip Hills provide some of the most dramatic scenery in Somerset. Expect limestone gorges, rolling farmland and far-reaching views towards the Bristol Channel.

Ideal for experienced walkers seeking rewarding climbs.

About half an hour in the car, and you’ll find the Cheddar Gorge Trail: https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/trail/england/somerset/cheddar-gorge

The Somerset Levels: Peaceful & Flat

For gentler terrain, the Somerset Levels offer tranquil paths and exceptional birdlife. Sunrise and sunset walks are particularly atmospheric.

Stourhead Estate Trails

Beyond the formal gardens, the wider Stourhead estate provides woodland and lakeside routes - perfect for combining culture and countryside.

This 3.7K route is a lovely little walk: https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/trail/england/wiltshire/stourhead-house-and-garden-lake-circular
